About the Trail

The Polesworth Heritage Trail project was a joint effort by The Polesworth Society and Polesworth Parish Council to help encourage tourism within Polesworth and to celebrate the village's rich history.

Taking advantage of the Market Towns Initiative, a joint bid was submitted to Advantage West Midlands to fund the project. The successful application supplied half of the funds needed, with the balance coming as a grant from Polesworth Parish Council.

The broad structure of the Trail was decided upon by The Polesworth Society. The Trail would consist of information on importnat historic buildings and figures, a description of Polesworth's rich industrial heritage and the importance that different forms of transport had played in the villages's development. Additionally, a number of signs comprising a map of the centre of Polesworth and a brief review of its history would be placed at strategic points around the village.

A local graphic artist was commissioned to design each sign, in addition to photographing those historic sites still standing and scanning and processing a number of old postcards and photographs of the village, provided by The Polesworth Society. The finished art work was then turned over to a firm of specialist sign-writers based in Shropshire, and the trail installed shortly afterwards. It has proved to be popular with local residents and visitors, alike.

This web site is intended to make the information contained in the Trail available to a wider audience. If you would like to visit Polesworth and walk the Trail in person, you can find directions to the village and a map of central Polesworth and the locations of the Trail signs elsewhere in the site.
